With great success, "and a three out of three 'hat trick'", the Hellenic Navy's Fast Missile Craft command this morning concluded exercise 'Marine Griffin 2015” with shots fired against a small surface target.
The shots took place in the sea area of the Crete live fire range, in the presence of the Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN, who was accompanied by the Chief of the Fleet Vice Admiral George Yakoumakis, aboard the frigate "Psara".
The missiles fired during the exercise:
- Two EXOCET MM-38 guided missiles fired from FAC/Ms "PEZOPOULOS" and “LASKOS".
- A PENGUIN MK2-MOD3 guided missile from FAC/M "SIMITZOPOULOS".
All three missiles hit the target surface, which was a laid up tug (15-meter) with a small reflective surface. The target tug was sunk because of the hits sustained.
For these shots, the Chief of Staff Gen. Michalis Kostarakos with a twit from Alexandroupolis noted characteristically: "Planned shots by Fleet guided missiles this morning in the Aegean were crowned with success."
